How to install RedHat (RHEL 8) Linux on VirtualBox

For the purpose of this article we have chosen the “automatic” storage configuration option, but if you are configuring this for a production server, you should partition the drive as per your specific needs.

Step 8: To configure IP address and Host Name click on “Network & Host Name” option from installation summary screen.

Select your network adapter from the list then turn the adapter “ON” by clicking the toggle button in the upper right corner.

Mention the Host Name that you want to set and then click on “Apply”. Once you are done with IP address and Host Name configuration click on “Done” button.

Note: If you do not enable the network adapter here, you will not have network connectivity when you boot the system.

Step 9: When you are satisfied with your configuration, click “Begin Installation” button to start the installation.

Step 10: The installer will now start to install the packages. In the meantime, you can set up the following two things.

  • Root Password
  • User Creation

Root password needs to be reasonably complex. So click on “Root Password” to set it.

Next, create the regular user ID that you will use to log into the system by clicking “User Creation”.

Note: Select “Make this user administrator”, This will enable sudo for your user ID.

Step 11: Once the installation is completed, installer will prompt you to reboot the system, Click on “Reboot” to restart your system.

Note: While your system is rebooting, don’t forget to eject the installation media so that you don’t inadvertently reboot into the Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL 8) installer again

How to register RedHat (RHEL 8) Linux

Step 1: When the system reboots, click “License Information” to accept the license agreement.

On the “License Information” screen, Click “I accept the license agreement” under the text of the license. Click “Done”.

Step 2: Your system needs to be registered to download software and updates from Red Hat. When you joined Red Hat Developer, a no-cost developer subscription added to your account. Registering your system attaches it to your subscription.
