Here are some typical steps needs to follow while you install Let’s Encrypt on shared hosting:
- Install WP Encryption WordPress plugin
- Verify your domain
- Generate SSL certificate
- Install SSL certificate
How to Install WP Encryption WordPress plugin
Installing WP Encryption plugin via WordPress dashboard is the easiest way. Simply log into your WordPress dashboard and follow the instructions as follows:
Step 1: Go to Plugins -> Add New.
Step 2: Search WP Encryption and click on “Install Now” button.
Step 3: Click on “Active” button.
Step 4: Click on “Skip” button.
You have now successfully installed WP Encryption on your WordPress site. The next step is to verify your domain.
How to verify your domain via WP Encryption WordPress plugin
You can access WP Encryption from WordPress dashboard where you will see this screen;
It says four things to follow – Registration, Domain verification, Certificate generation and install the certificate. Let’s do the same.
Step 1: Enter your email id and click both TOS (Terms of service) from Let’s Encrypt and Go Web Smarty. Then, Click on “Generate Free SSL Certificate” button.
Step 2: After successful verification of your domain, SSL certificate would be generated for you and it greets you by the following message.
There are sometimes you might receive an error which could describe something like – “Domain is not successfully verified”. In that case visit your hosting account dashboard and click on “File manager” which gives you access to your file structure of WordPress site.
Under “public_html” , expand the directory you will get another directory which is called by “.well-known” and under it one sub directory called “acme-challenge”. Click on it.
Here you need to change file permission from 0644 to 0755 and then try once again.
If all goes well then you should be greeted with a message – “Congrats! SSL Certificate have been successfully generated.”
