When you are searching for the perfect WordPress theme, it’s easy to install and test one theme after another. Soon your WordPress installation looks like a theme market.

In other scenario, you install a theme for your new blog and after some days or months you think the design of your blog is not impressive or bounce rate is increasing.

Bounce rate is very important if your website design looks good, user will love it and will spend time on your website which will decrease bounce rate.

There are two ways of deleting a theme from your WordPress installation and they are:

  1. Deleting a theme from WordPress admin panel
  2. Deleting a theme via FTP client

It has few steps involved in this process. So that, before deleting a WordPress theme you have to deactivate the current theme. So, kindly follow below step by step process to deactivate the current theme first.

How to inactivate a theme in WordPress

Step 1: Go to Appearance >> Themes 

Step 2: Click on the other theme (in our case – Twenty Nineteen) which is currently in inactivate state. Make it active.

Step 3: By this method you have successfully inactivate the active theme (in our case – Blogzine).

Now next step is to delete a WordPress theme.

Method 1#: How to delete a theme from WordPress admin panel

Step 1: From your WordPress admin menu select Appearance >> Themes.

Step 2: Let’s delete the “Blogzine” theme. Hover over it and click the black rectangle labeled “Theme Details” to select it.

Step 3: Click “Delete” button on the right corner which will remove the theme from your WordPress site.

Step 4: You will see a confirmation window giving you a final chance to cancel, select “OK”.

Step 5: The “Blogzine” theme is deleted, leaving the remaining themes.

Method 2#: How to delete a theme via FTP client

Step 1: Open your FTP program such as Filezilla , and login to your hosting server with FTP login credentials.

Step 2: Go to themes directory  wp-content >> themes.

Step 3: Select your theme (in our case – Blogzine) which you want to delete by right click and select “Delete” from the option.

Now your theme is successfully deleted.

That’s it! You can use any of the above mentioned methods to delete any WordPress theme that’s causing an issue or the one that you don’t want to remain in the WordPress directory anymore.
